barbie organizer

so, when i was showing off my cute diy mirror redo...you got to see this awesome purple shoe hanger.
the purple drove me crazy...also the fact that the barbies didn't fully fit....so i made a custom barbie holder to hold every single barbie....(and two huge pockets to hold their stuff)

that boy barbie has his eye on the beauty in purple....

very similar to the craft organizer...
i started with a yard of fabric...cut up the long way..so you have two 44 in pieces (i'm using flannel)
and then i sewed them together to make one ginarmous piece.
then i backed it with pink felt to make it reinforced!

i bought a yard of medium thick plastic from walmart...i cut them into long strips of 9 inches...
made my own binding out of pink (remember the binding tutorial yesterday?) and attached it to top of each plastic piece

and sewed it on..

the difference between the craft and the barbie organizer is that the plastic is just straight across here...one big strip. the craft organizer is individual pieces all different sizes!

I measure it out using barbies and then pinched in the middle to make sure the barbies all fit...

i started by sewing horizontal along the bottom.....then up and down as one bit long strip...

then i added a binding around the edge...

i also folded it over like yesterday and added a strip of fabric to the front and back to tie it onto the hooks...

and a dowel to make sure it stays tight and doesn't fold in....
and that's it...

to be honest....it makes me sick that we have this many barbies ( AND i snuck three out when i was filling it up..yet to be noticed)
this is the justin beiber barbie (knockoff--she bought casue it looks like him)...

and this poor girl is lost her arm. and my daughter was so upset. and i said, "it's just like that surf girl that lost her arm"...and now it's my daughter's favorite barbie!

so we went
from this....
to this...

and the two big pockets at the bottom holds so much crap

now..you can customize this for whatever toy you need organizing..or you could make a personalized one for your shoes...or jewelry.or what have you...

and if you are scared of using plastic you can just use fabric
like my car holder...

  1. Great idea! Too bad that would fit only half of my daughters' barbie collection. They have so many it makes me sick.

  2. It turned out great! I love using spaces, like the back of the door, that would otherwise be wasted.

  3. before I read your comment about having so many I was thinking... holy crap... they have a lot of barbies :o) I think growing up I had like two... and now I only have boys... so no barbies :o) LOVE the project though.

  4. I love this! However, my daughter would need one for all 4 doors in her room! You should be so proud of your daughter's room, absolutely AMAZING!!! So creative!

  5. I need one of those for my Jem & The Holograms complete set. That would rock.

  6. You think that's bad? At my daughters peak she had 152 Barbies. I'm not kidding. They were all stored in a huge storage bin in her closet. In her defense she did play with them ALL.THE.TIME. I kept telling people NO MORE BARBIES, but somehow they kept missing that memo. I did make her go through them and she gave 25 to one cousin and another 25 to her other cousin. INSANE. I love this idea - I'll have to keep it in mind for when my youngest hits Barbie age. Goodness knows we have enough of them for when she does!
